Plans for 2016, First Quarter

Greetings, Gentle Reader.

We wish to announce our plans for the first quarter of the new year.  We hope you will be able to join us.

UPDATED 27 Jan. 2016

February: Discussion has begun on the possibility of a weekend prayer retreat at the Chattanooga House of Prayer.  The agenda will be a mixture of times for prayer and study of Lewis' writings about prayer, especially covering his book Letters to Malcolm, Chiefly on Prayer.  ...
NOTE:  This event has now been scheduled for the weekend of 11/12 March.  You can sign up for it by visiting this webpage: http://goo.gl/forms/gBhTPSJedj

March:  We will attend the annual UTC C. S. Lewis Lecture, 31 March, at the University Center Auditorium.  The speaker for 2016 is Dr. Joseph Laconte of Kings' College, New York City.  Dr. Laconte is an Associate Professor of History and author of the book A Hobbit, a Wardrobe, and a Great War: How J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis Rediscovered Faith, Friendship, and Heroism in the Cataclysm of 1914-1918You may find a description of the book on Amazon by clicking here.

Other Business:

C. S. Lewis Tour:  Our friend Will Vaus and tour director Russ Head spent a lot of time this past spring scouting out locations in both Ireland and England for a C. S. Lewis themed tour, August 14-26, 2016.  This will be one of the best C. S. Lewis tours you could take.  Will Vaus is a walking C. S. Lewis encyclopedia, and Russ Head is great at providing quality tours based on the concept that "less is more."  For more on Russ' tours, visit his website.  We'll have more on the tour posted soon.  If you want info immediately, send me an e-mail: beckmanndn "at" gmail dot com.

Men's weekly meeting:  I am trying to fire our men's meeting back up, meeting weekly.  I am seeking feedback on days and times that will be convenient for the majority of those interested.  This will be a breakfast or supper meeting, and we will probably go back to studying God in the Dock, picking up where we left off a couple of years ago.  If you want to attend, do send an e-mail to the above address.

Financial assistance: If you wish to make a financial contribution to foster C. S. Lewis related events in our area, such as the annual UTC lecture and our Society events, your assistance will be greatly appreciated.  Contributions can be made to the C. S. Lewis fund at Generosity Trust here in Chattanooga.  You can contact me for more info.

Other events for the rest of the year are being considered.  In the meantime, we wish you all the most blessed and merry of Christmases and a healthy and prosperous new year.

Long live the True King!
